VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

The next dates and times for upcoming Volunteer Orientation Sessions are:

Tuesday December 5 — 9:15-10:00am
Thursday December 14 — 8:15-9:00am

Parent and Community Volunteers play an important role in supporting our students, teachers and whole school community. Thank you for your time and dedication in serving our schools.

If you are a new or returning volunteer, please consult the volunteer website for information related to volunteering and to recent changes to volunteer policy and practice.

Parent volunteer forms in Powerschool have recently been cleared and opened for the year. Registrations will be processed on a rolling basis. Please complete your forms ASAP if you plan on volunteering this year.

Parents wishing to volunteer only need to complete volunteer forms attached to your youngest child

PLEASE READ THE RED INSTRUCTIONS IN EACH SECTION OF THE POWERSCHOOL VOLUNTEER FORM AS THEY REFLECT RECENT CHANGES IN REGISTRATION PROCEDURES.

Volunteer Orientation Sessions will be held in the Community Center Conference Room. The room is to the left of the main desk.

Volunteers are needed in the following areas:

MIDDLE SCHOOL CODING CLUB ASSISTANT ADVISORS

The Middle School Coding Club is looking for volunteers to serve as Assistant Advisors for club sessions on Wednesday or Thursday mornings from 7:00-7:55. The ideal volunteer will have coding experience (or the willingness to learn) and will be able to study the tutorials before meeting with students. The students will be working with XCode or SNAP! (Build Your Own Blocks) and Photoshop. POND COVE ART STUDIO ASSISTANT

The Art Department at Pond Cove Elementary School is looking for a volunteer to help mount and hang student art in the halls of Pond Cove. The ideal volunteer will be able to dedicate 1-2 hours every other week. If you are interested in this assignment please contact John Holdridge at.

POND COVE LIBRARY AND LEARNING COMMONS (LLC) ASSISTANTS

Opportunities exist to volunteer on a regular basis in the Pond Cove LLC. Days and times can be arranged to meet the needs of those willing and able to commit to a regular schedule. Please contact John Holdridge at .  

FRENCH TUTORS

The Foreign Language Department is looking for native speakers of French to provide some tutoring and extra challenge for advanced middle school students. If you would like to find out more about this opportunity please contact John Holdridge at .

CAREER FAIR PRESENTERS

We are looking for professionals from a variety of fields who would be willing to have career conversations with students as part of the CEMS Career Conversation series or at the CEHS/SPHS Career Fair to be held on Wednesday May 2nd. If interested in finding out more about these opportunities to share your professional experience, please contact John Holdridge at .

The Annual POLAR DIP Event

SAVE THE DATE: January 1st is The Annual POLAR DIP Event.

Arrive at Kettle Cove at 10:30am for the 11:00am dip. Donate $10 in the kettle, buy a hot drink, and cheer on your friends and family. 100% of the funds collected are used for Project Graduation.
Volunteers are needed. Contact the PG Committee at if you can help. The event is sponsored by the Cape Elizabeth WET Team. Come join in the fun and support Project Graduation 2018!

Festival of Curiosity: Solstice Craft Event

Festival of Curiosity : Solstice Craft Event

Registration Now Open!

Come make trendy, Pinterest-inspired crafts in this after-school program. Crafts include string art, galaxy jars, metal art, paper snowflakes, fortune tellers, playing charades, and much, much more!

Register either by emailing with student’s name/grade or adding student’s name to sign-up sheet at the front office of CEMS. Payment can be made via PayPal (https://www.paypal.me/FestivalofCuriosity/20) or by giving a check (made payable to Festival of Curiosity) to the front office of CEMS.

All students must be registered and paid by Friday, December 15th to attend. Please sign-up early as space is limited. Pond Cove siblings of CEMS students may attend if a CEMS or CEHS student agrees to partner with them.

Cost $20.

Psst- We also still have discounted gift certificates to Camp Cody in NH. Support the Festival of Curiosity and send your child to Camp Cody for nearly ½-off.

Hannaford Grocery Card Fundraiser

Hannaford Grocery Card Fundraiser

30 families participated in the HGC program this November, earning $470 for outdoor education programs! You, too, can participate in this easy, no-cost fundraiser!  It’s free and so easy!!  Just send in a check with your filled out form to the MS front office and you will receive a Hannaford grocery card for the full amount of your check.  Hannaford gives the MSPA 5% of every dollar loaded onto your card.  You decide to which grade’s outdoor fund your 5% gets allocated or you may choose to allocate funds to teacher grants. Send in checks by the due dates listed and we will reload your same card each month.  For questions please email Laura Allen at allenlaura207@gmail.com.  

See here how your child’s Chewonki fundraising is going. The MSPA has set each class’s goal of reducing tuition by $90 per student but last year’s 6th grade class was able to reduce their tuition by $135 per student!! Excess funds raised/unused move with your child’s class into High School.

TEACHER APPRECIATION HOLIDAY COOKIE SWAP: Bakers needed!!!

This years’ Annual Teacher Appreciation Holiday Cookie Swap will be on Friday, December 22nd. Please consider baking for this much anticipated TA event. Cookies can be dropped at school before noon on December 22nd or dropped off the night before to 1175 Shore Road. For more information, please contact .  

TRAVEL BASKETBALL SIGN UPS – NOW OPEN!!!

5th & 6th Grade BOYS & GIRLS: The 5th & 6th Grade Travel League involves teams from surrounding communities. Games will be played in Cape Elizabeth and surrounding communities.  The first series of weekend games will begin Nov 11th. Teams will have one or two practice time slots per week TBD, and one or two weekend games. Fee includes travel league fee, practice t-shirt and Saturday clinics.  

7th & 8th Grade GIRLS TRAVEL TEAM will compete against other teams from surrounding communities (November- early January), in this travel league prior to Middle School teams starting in mid January. Games will be played in Cape Elizabeth and surrounding communities. The registration deadline for the girls program was October 20th.   

7th & 8th Grade BOYS TRAVEL TEAM will compete against other teams from surrounding communities (January-early March), in this travel league after the Middle School teams play in November.  Games will be played in Cape and surrounding communities.
