Ways to Volunteer

Volunteer skills, interests, and time commitments vary. We hope that you will be able to find a volunteer opportunity that suits your interests and availability. Here is a list of open volunteer opportunities we are actively seeking support for. If any of these opportunities sounds like a good fit – or if you’d like more information on what’s involved – please reach out to Allison Blackstone with any questions.

Please take a few minutes to fill out the CEMS volunteer interest form. This provides us with your areas of interest as we plan specific projects and events.

Classroom – Some teachers may like to have volunteers help in the classroom or field trips. Examples would be working with students in the classroom or in small groups, or preparing instructional materials as needed.

School Wide – For those interested in helping on a school wide level, literacy & math tutoring, school library assistance, office support, Cafeteria Helpers and art program assistance offer various opportunities to contribute.

Special School Projects – Periodically throughout the year, the administration or student council may seek volunteer help with such projects as planting, decorating, and special theme-related events.

What’s Required to Become a Volunteer

Volunteers, with a student in the Cape Elizabeth school system, must register each year by completing the Volunteer Registration Form in the Powerschool Portal.

Volunteers must attend a Volunteer Awareness Training one time. Please click here to sign up for an upcoming session with the District Volunteer Coordinator Sarah Gagne. These sessions will be offered on multiple days and times throughout the school year.

If you are a community member and do not have a student in the Cape Elizabeth School System, please fill out this application and the District Volunteer Coordinator will contact you: Community Member Volunteer Application

The Cape Elizabeth School Board Volunteer Handbook will provide you with practical information and guidelines that will assist you in your volunteer efforts. It is our goal to ensure that the time you spend with our students is worthwhile. If you have any questions that are not answered in this handbook, please speak with the classroom teacher, or contact the school principal.
